The inaugural BC Tech Summit wrapped up with a reception acknowledging the contributions of BC’s tech sector to a diversified economy. Technology is reshaping how we do business, transforming customer experiences and driving growth across all segments of BC’s economy.
The BC Tech Summit was a two-day event that showcased BC’s technology industry, building cross-sector opportunities for businesses and providing insights into the sectors for students.
PlaceSpeak was part of Startup Alley, a group of 18 emerging companies in the technology field. In addition, the regular trade show provided a venue for established companies to bring to life the diversity and ingenuity of technology in the province. 11 post secondary institutions made up Research Row, showcasing some innovative technology in the medical field and robotics. Clean Tech, Med Tech, Agri Tech and lots of software companies were present.
In thinking towards the future of BC’s tech sector, the Career Showcase provided opportunities for students to explore the wide range of employment opportunities available in the technology sector. Students arrived on Tuesday to engage and learn and take part in the lunch buffet. Premier Christy Clark also announced the addition of coding in the K-12 school curriculum.
Finally, PlaceSpeak took the opportunity to announce a partnership with Socrata. By working with Socrata, an open data solution for governments at all levels, PlaceSpeak will have access to information about rezoning and development applications and deliver timely, localized civic notifications to users in any city with a Socrata platform.
