Smith Creek ASP Planning Area

As part of the engagement process, The Town of Canmore and QuantumPlace Developments, (on behalf of Three Sisters Mountain Village (TSMV)) have launched a public consultation on the PlaceSpeak platform to engage the Canmore community on the process to create an Area Structure Plan (ASP) for Smith Creek.  In addition to PlaceSpeak, engagement efforts will continue throughout the planning process and will include the formation of a Community Advisory Group, online engagement through the smithcreekcanmore.ca website, and open houses and/or workshops where feedback and input from stakeholders and engaged residents will help inform the creation of the Smith Creek ASP.

Tracy Woitenko and Jessica Karpat from the Smith Creek ASP Project Team acknowledge a fatigue with past planning processes on TSMV lands:

We recognize that we must move forward with an innovative approach in order to avoid repeating past processes and the frustration and inefficiencies that they generated. The previous attempt in 2012 by the Receiver to develop an ASP for the subject lands was marred with controversy and did not fully address the needs of TSMV, the Town of Canmore or the community.”

Currently, there is no approved ASP for the Smith Creek lands. This new collaborative process, which will inform the creation of the Smith Creek ASP, is built upon the principles of working together in order to find solutions and seek common ground.  This process is an opportunity for TSMV, the Town and the Canmore community to have input into a vision for the subject lands. The result will be a transparent process that is well communicated to the public by TSMV and the Town of Canmore.

How to Get Involved:
