Share

As a startup innovating in the civic technology space, PlaceSpeak is continuously improving and developing new features to help organizations in all industries and sectors meet their engagement goals to make better decisions.
Based on feedback from our clients and extensive research, PlaceSpeak’s development team has been hard at work. We’re happy to announce the launch of our new topic administration, including:
- Redesigned interface
- New insights & analytics
- Granular security & visibility options
- Multiple consultation preview options
Redesigned Interface
The new look and feel makes it easier and more intuitive for first-time users or non-technical users to create and manage consultations.
When administrators create a new consultation, they are now guided through a step-by-step process of setting up and customizing their topic page. Progress bars show how far along administrators are in the setup process. Tips and best practices are also highlighted on the right-hand sidebar.
New Insights & Analytics
Customers have expressed the necessity for improved scientific processes of transforming large quantities of fast-moving geospatial and participant engagement (surveys, polls, discussions, place-based commenting) data into actionable insights. To help our clients get the most out of their consultations, we employed a range of big data techniques that are both innovative and pragmatic.
We’ve grouped our capabilities into two areas: a) Insights: to provide geospatial analytical tools to analyze participant engagement data in every phase of the public consultation process, and b) Analytics: to give clients a way to analyze how their consultation is doing overall, and what could be done to improve engagement.
Granular Security & Visibility Options
Organizations using PlaceSpeak deal with a diversity of local and regional issues, ranging from public transportation to affordable housing, water management, budgets, and more. We recognized that organizations wanted the option to hear from a broader public, while limiting participation to residents in some aspects.
Administrators can now customize who is eligible to participate in each engagement tool: anyone (any registered PlaceSpeak user) or residents only (individuals who reside within the geographical boundaries of the defined map). For example, in the discussion forum, administrators have the option to customize who can respond to each question or thread individually. Administrators can now incorporate a mix of questions, with ones which are open to anyone and those which are open only to residents.
Multiple Consultation Preview Options
Prior to launching their consultation, administrators will now have the option to preview what the page looks like to logged-in PlaceSpeak users and to non-users.
